Kumbalangi is a well known spot in the tourism map of India serving large number of domestic as well as international tourists every year. Kumbalangi, a small island by nature, has been selected as the first Model Tourism Village all over in India. Although it is an island and surrounded by back waters, Kumbalangi is well connected with the main land Kochi and the neighboring district Alappuzha by road and water.
Kumbalangi offers high potential for house boat cruise, adventurous water sports, traditional boat race, fishing, swimming and other cultural programs. There are many indigenous methods of fishing prevailing in the area. Pupping is the most popular among them. (In this method, a small area of water is separated with small wooden poles and then this area is filled with decayed twigs and coconut fibers making a hiding place for large number of various specious of fish. After a short span of time, say, one week, a fishing net is laid around poles and the entrapped fishes are collected using cane basket or another small fishing net).
Both Jojo and Gladies are masters of the art of cooking and are very enthusiastic in teaching others the same. Apart from Kerala dishes, the men and machines are always ready and equipped for other dishes like Chinese and Continental.
The Jojos, very fond of serving the people with high spirit of hospitality say, “We serve the food with a dash of love which makes our food homely and heavenly. Albeit we are equipped with all cuisines, we offer Kerala dishes to our valid guests because almost all these items are prepared in steam hence hygienic and less of oil. For breakfast we normally serve nutritious combination like Appam with vegetable/mutton stew or egg roast, Puttu with Kadala (sprouted gram) curry, Uppuma with Palanquin, Idly with sambar, Dosa with chutney etc. and for Lunch, Rice with fish curry/fry, sambar, rasam, buttermilk, lot of vegetable dishes like spinach, beans, cabbage and variety of Kerala desserts like payasam, pradhaman etc. Our dinner menu consists of Chapathy with chicken fry / roast or mutton curry with side dishes made of vegetables. The proximity to sea and backwaters help us to provide best quality fish and other seafood items. We believe in receiving guests and send them back as friends”.
